Prints

Journal Entry: Sat Jul 21, 2012, 10:52 AM

All of my deviantART prints have been deactivated now.
I'm not happy with the quality of the prints that I've seen come out of deviantART, and so If you want prints of my work, you can always come to our table at conventions and get them there, or contact me.

I can do my own prints as our studio is equipped with a commercial fine art printer that can do up to 13x19 borderless.  We take great lengths to ensure we have the finest quality from our prints.
Our printer is pigment based (wont fade), and we use a variety of fine art paper. Better still, if you buy from me the costs are lower because I'm not sharing my profits with a corporation.

Eventually they'll be set up in our shop, but for now, if you see an image you like, simply email me or contact us through our facebook page and we will arrange to get prints made for you.

You can see a list of our convention appearances on Gurukitty.com as well as any new art work, since I don't really post here anymore :)

Thanks so much!

Commission me please :3

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 31, 2012, 9:54 PM

I am temporarily opening up commissions to raise funds to pay for Convention Tables and for ordering Product. It's not cheap to go to Conventions, but we really do need to exposure of being out there to push our comics! ACK, so we need a fair amount of money to stock up on our comics to make us able to even break even at the conventions, particularly Calgary Expo.

So for a limited time, full art commissions. Here is what I am offering.
I will only take 5 orders at a time. It's first PAID first served.
I'll start with Sketched portrait drawings, and anything else will be an add on from there.

Pricing:
Sketch Card: 10$ (no add on's. this is a stand alone commission)

Sketched Portrait: $25

ADD inked - +$15
ADD colour - +$30
ADD Full body - +$20
ADD abstract Background - +$10

So, this means if you want an inked portrait in colour, it costs $70
Please note, It HAS to be inked, to be coloured! Please take that into account
To order go here.

Thank you! <3

Tagged Oh nooo

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 11, 2012, 7:42 PM

I guess I'll play along...

I was tagged by: :iconmosobot64:
1. You must post these rules (very, VERY Important )
2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create ten new questions for the people you tag to answer.
3. You have to choose 10 people to tag and post their icons on your journal.
4. Go to their pages and tell them you have tagged her/him.
5. No crap in the tagging section about "you are tagged if you're reading this."

1. Favorite Thing (Movie, videogame, comic, etc.)? Copic Markers

2. Most Important Subject to Know (History, Math, Science, Art)? ART

3. Fish or Chicken? Both if they're alive. Neither if they're dead

4. Nintendo or Microsoft? Nintendo

5. Fave Comic Publisher (Mainstream or Indie)? Um... Gurukitty Studios...

6. Mocha or Mint? Mocha (though I don't like coffee, mint seems offensive to me right now)

7. Favorite News Station/Network (TV, Newspaper, or Online)? HBO (deadwood!)

8. Favorite Little Game to Waste Time On (Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, etc.)? Only game I really play is MIchael Jackson: The experience and occasional sim city.

9. Pen or tablet? PEN

10. (THE MOST IMPORTANT) Pirate or Ninja? PIRATE.

My 10 questions to my tagged ones:

1: Pop Or water?

2: oreos or fudgeeo's?

3: Vampires or Zombies?

4: more important to know Photoshop or Anatomy?

5: Paper preference: smooth or toothy?

6: Medium of choice? (oil paint, acrylic, markers, watercolours etc)

7: Do you still have your wisdom teeth?

8: Do you have twitter? (what is it!)

9: warm or cold?

10: Milk, dark, or white chocolate?

I tag....
:iconmisskittyoooo: :icontouchedvenus: :iconlimnides: :iconcypris-quynh:

I really don't talk to anyone on here anymore, so ....I don't know who else to tag :B

:salute: Answer this:

You and I end up handcuffed together using only 3 words what would you say to me. (it's a lot harder then it seems) if you comment copy and paste this so I can comment on yours. Only fair so play along.

Copic Blog

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 3, 2012, 10:46 PM

Guest Tutorial – Airbrushing Comics by Jayleen Weaver (Marker Guru) <--- GO LOOK

See that, it's a Copic Marker guest blog. THat's right!
Copic approached me to do a guest tutorial and I did it :D

I'm trying to catch up on things! I've been felled by a combination of wisdom teeth and holiday dental clinic closures - so I've been in constant pain for around a month (partially because i also had a killer cold that masked the tooth pain with insane sinus madness, so I didn't realize the seriousness of the tooth thing until the thick of the holidays).
so tomorrow dental surgery. Cool.

I'm sorry I didn't send out any christmas cards this year. I was so sick, I still am pretty down and out but I'm trying to pull things back together.
it's been really busy too because we got a studio!I spend a lot of time in there doing comic work as well, though I haven't been in over a week, until today when we had a draw party with Donut :D Yay!

Anyway, just wanted to show off that Copic blog :D

Lion Web by `Marker-Guru

Once Upon a Time…” is Gurukitty Studios second Anthology, and you guessed right, it’s going to be a folk/Fairy Tale themed anthology.
If you participated in the Ghost Tales anthology, be aware that things are going to be slightly different this time round, so don’t assume anything at the moment.

The Theme:
The theme for “Once upon a time…” is obviously Fairy and Folk Tales. We chose this because when we did a public poll and it was one of the ones people voted most that they wanted to participate in, after ghost stories.

Here is the challenge though, we are all familiar with the mainstream typical stories such as Sleeping Beauty, Red Riding hood, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White and the other popular classics. They have been done over and over again and unless you have some masterfully twisted version of the very well known stories, there is no point in doing them again.

We want you to dig into lesser known or culturally relevant folk stories from various cultures from all over the world. We want folk stories from many different countries all in one book so people can see how different cultures influence the different types of story telling. You can tell a classic if you like, but you’d better tell it in a mind blowing way noone would ever predict or it’s not getting in this book.

Please be careful of copyright infringement and be sure you are taking the essence of the story and telling it in your own words. Also make sure the story is free from copyright (over 100 years old, public domain or author-less). Because these stories are often published, and re-told and published and re-published you need to make sure you are taking it from it’s original version and not someones adaption/publication.
Example, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is very different from the original story, if you used Disneys telling as your reference point, you are going to get yourself in legal trouble and us along with you. You will be required to sign a contract stating that you have researched this point and you will take sole responsibility for any infringements.

Specifications:
We are accepting 5-20 page completed short comics with the following specifications:
-Black and White (Greyscales/*Screentones[see note below])
-Your files must conform with the template (Download template)/Final page size should be have a 4.5″x7″ Live area and the trim should be 5″x7.5″ with the total page size being 5.5″X7.75″
- PNG or TIFF (LZW compresssions, IBM compatible)
-Pages must be fully lettered and ready to print, we wont be editing your artwork
- Rating will vary (G-18+), while we don’t want blatent pornography, we do know that fairy tales were originally targetted to adults and we do not intend to make this graphic novel safe for children. So we will be accepting stories that have the original contents (ie cannibalism, pregnancy, sexual references and violence) and references from the first editions. We aren’t looking for a pile of “Happily ever after” stories, but they are welcome as well.
Having said that, we will judge each story on a case by case basis, we will expect them to be tastefully or artfully done without making it pornography.

The finished graphic novel will have a final size of 5.5″X7.75″, this is commonly referred to as “Manga” sized books.

*Screentones are alright as long as you understand screentones in print and how they differ from the screen

Compensation:
As a participating artists you will be given 2 free copies of the completed book and will be offered future issues at wholesale for re-sale or gifting.
As this anthology is more a collaborative artist project, artists do not receive a share of profits sold by other artists or Gurukitty studios sales. If you wish to gain some financial benefits for yourself you need to sell your own copies of the book and you will keep 100% of the profits of your own sales. However, Gurukitty Studios will promote the locations where artists are selling this anthology as well as artists online shops. Gurukitty Studios will cover all costs and labor for preparing the book for publication apart for individual comic submissions which need to be submitted in compliance to the technical specifications.

Additional notes:
This anthology is going to be 5.5″X7.75″, perfect bound, in black and white with a full colour cover.
Teams or partnerships are welcome.
You may submit as many comics as you like but only be featured once.

Because we require you to sign a contract, you must be either over 18 years old, or have a legal guardian sign the contract if your submission is accepted.

 Submitting:
Deadline for Submissions is March 30, 2012
To submit to this anthology please send a JPG preview of all pages in a ZIP folder to submissions@gurukitty.com

If you have any questions, feel free to visit the post on Gurukitty.com and leave a comment.

Also, if you are a writer in search of an artist or vice versa, or want some partnerships we have a forum for you connect and meet

Vcon Report

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 3, 2011, 10:40 AM

Well we survived Vcon which was our first 3 day convention. We think we did okay considering it was our first time in that convention, and we didn't know what the traffic and stuff was going to be like. There was some good and some bad parts of it; but in the end we pre-registered and paid for the con next year already. (So yes, We'll be at Vcon Next year September 28, 29 &30th.

So lets do a little review of Vcon for those of you thinking of taking a chance on the artist alley.

I'l going to start with the Cons so that the blog ends on a high Note.

56 hours left to reach our goal! PLS help us :)

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 22, 2011, 4:32 PM

We only have 56 hours left on our Campaign to get us enough money to get to Calgary Expo in April. If we don't meet our goal, then we still get to keep the donations, just that indieGoGo takes a higher percentage from us :<
If you could promote this for us, Every little bit helps us reach that goal. Even if we have to rent Donkeys because it's cheaper because we didn't make our goal, that would be fine. we just need a boost because it's an expensive trip for us :(
THERE IS TONS OF SWAG TO BE HAD! This includes pre orders of some of our pending comics, as well as Ghost tales!

Anyway, Thanks for your help! Please promote and donate if you can!
Thank you so much!

Name Game and stuff

Journal Entry: Wed Aug 10, 2011, 11:03 PM

Bevan over at CloudScape is having a fun little Challenge over there called Name Game. Here's a little information on that from The initial post.
I have two universes, Universe-D and Universe-M. Universe-D uses DC names, Universe-M uses Marvel names. Every major character, organization, object, and location (besides those from our universe, of course) is named after something from the respective comic book universe, though I may turn a person in to an organization or an object, a location in to a person (so members of Iron Fist may be hunting for the Dormammu book under the orders of the entity Madripoor). Images of the old characters will be taken from the Internet, images of the new characters will be provided by the talented Reetta Linjama and other artists.

So, Check it out, it's really cool :)

We're still trying to raise funds for Calgary. There are awesome rewards for every donation level, so please go look at it before you dismiss it ;)

Dont forget, Ghost tales deadline is screeching up really quickly. get your submission's to us before you miss out :)

Helping others!

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 26, 2011, 8:24 PM

So `misskittyoooo are taking a big leap in our Comic Convention adventures. This time we're diving into Calgary Expo. We've heard great things from other people who've attended the Expo, and we're really excited to take our comics there! By the time the expo is here we should have ghost tales and maybe even Hello Albertosaurus at least available for Pre-order! Excite!
Now there is a small issue of funding. It costs a lot to travel these days. especially by plane and with lots of Luggage. To sell for 3 days, thats a Lot of merchandise. We need 2 plane tickets, hotels, and other costs. We live rather simple lives so we don't need much.
We've launched a campaign on IndieGogo to help us raise these funds.

Read more at the campaign

It would be really amazing if you could help us by donating some money, or even just promoting it for us! If you have Twitter, facebook, google+, Tumblr, blogs, or websites or anything (your dA journal for example)! if you could just promote our cause, and get the word out we'd be forever in your debt!

We have a campaign goal we're trying to meet so I hope you'll help us out! Thank you so much :D

Just a side note: Amounts not donated through IndieGOGO do not count towards the goal, so we really would appreciate everyone making their donations THROUGH indieGOGO. It's an amazingly simple process to submit any amount you like. Just choose "other amount" if you want to donate an amount not listed.

:new: :new: `straightfromcamera was nominated for the Urban Culture awards in Vancouver! please go vote for him :D

^Lyricanna is accepting commissions to pay bills - both parents have cancer. She could definitely use the help.
