I'm programmed to think "Ooh, Nice clean store, well displayed products. Must be good."

You can't spend half your life working in the service industry and not automatically think that way. :zombie:

me too, and most people do think a clean shelf is a good thing... however one of my bosses always makes shelves messy looking saying that it makes people want to buy more... hell if I'm buying paint i want it to look pristine, not like its from a dollar store...

Exactly! When I buy something (especially if it's expensive) I want it to be a pristine little treasure for me to unwrap and play with.

In my experience, most people get annoyed by trying to find things on messy shelves and will even get frustrated enough to make their purchase elsewhere if possible. As long as the products and shelves aren't dusty, the untouched look is a good thing in retail.

Its also important to have things blocked and faced so you can see theft as well.
but ya, if it looks like a messy dollar store thats the quality I expect and generally wont buy it.

I'd think that making stuff look like low priced quality would be a better draw myself.

I think more than the look of the shelves the key to making sales is good signage :|

I don't really pay attention to how clean or new the shelves are :slow:
