To me, animation is either 2D or 3D. The 2D animation can be differentiated between traditional or digital if I'm getting specific about things. We had both in the animation school I went to so I guess that is how I picked up my terms.
That encompasses even animation types like flash not purely classical. When I went to School it was called Classical animation, Toon boom calls it Tradigital...
i was taught traditional 2D animation and digital 2D animation. tradigital sounds like toon boom are trying to coin a new phrase to sell a product. I have never heard anyone ever call it that.
well ya, it does, but I have heard it used elsewhere as well.
I find if I say "traditional 2d" I still get asked "flash?" and digital 2d, the same. so my thinking is, What term says "paper and pencil-done digitally" without also conjouring up "flash" or cut out animation styles?

For me, classical animation is down to more than how it was produced, character acting and regard for wieght and timing are important.
2D doesn't cut it, Flash is 2D but not traditional... *scratchs head* this is the sort of moment when terms like Metrosexual come into being
